Membership Criteria and Diversity Statement
Membership in AAUW is now open to any graduate holding an associate or equivalent, baccalaureate, or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university. The Tacoma Branch was organized in 1907 and today consists of approximately 100 women from varied backgrounds who promote the Association’s goals. As a member of the Tacoma Branch you are automatically a member of Washington State AAUW and National AAUW.
There shall be no barriers to full participation in this organization on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, or disability.
Anyone with a bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university, or now with an associate degree or equivalent, may become a member of Tacoma Branch. Just fill out an application and pay dues of $77.
That’s all! You do not need an invitation to join us.

Features and Benefits of Membership
Be part of one of the leading women’s organizations in the country, one that is known for taking a stand on crucial issues affecting women. AAUW nationwide consists of 150,000 members advocating for education and equity. AAUW Educational Foundation funds research, fellowships, grants, awards and community action. AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund supports women who are challenging sex discrimination in higher education.
As a member of Tacoma Branch AAUW, you will enjoy the camaraderie of educated women while honing your personal and professional skills. Branch membership entitles you to participate in all branch activities and programs, including study and interest groups, cultural events, field trips and special workshops; and to attend all district and regional conferences, state and Association conventions. Your branch membership is transferable to any other branch in the U.S. or Canada.
As part of your membership, you will receive:
- A branch membership directory
- Monthly (Sept.-May) branch newsletters
- Evergreen Leader, the publication of AAUW of Washington
- Outlook, the journal of AAUW
- AAUW in Action, a national publication.
You will also be kept up-to-date on public policy issues on which AAUW has taken a position, through action alerts from Association, state and branch leaders. Tacoma Branch participates in Lobby Day each year during the state legislative session. This event gives you the opportunity to talk one-on-one with your legislators and let them know what issues you care about as a member of AAUW. We also partner with other community organizations to present Candidates’ Forums in election years.
